When I started photography, I remember playing around with TV controls, otherwise known as shutter speeds. A combination of both a shutter speed and aperture can give you creative ways in capturing an image, especially when you are toying with a source of motion or light (or sometimes both....like in this image I took of the centennial flame). I discovered that you can be creative with photography, not just visually, but in use of the tools, somewhat similar to Impressionism where you make the brush strokes prevalent as part of the painting....you can do the same with art in photography.

Impressionism was an art movement that began in the 19th century (1870-1880 to be exact), with roots that originated in Paris. the famous
Claude Monet was one of the most popular impressionist painters from that era.
As with all era's there are different parts.
1886 saw the rise of Neo Impressionism founded by
Georges-Pierre Seurat and gave us some work from
Paul Signac, one of my favorites low key painters.
and then like all eras you have post Impressionism, which would give you the legendary works of
Vincent Van Gogh.
